In Vigil

Sitting in vigil, with a friend:

Rosaries, Evening Prayers, Office of Readings, Morning Prayers, words of peace. Soft music, soft lights. Waiting.

The evening passes; the morning slowly, quietly comes. I count the hours ‘til I see a dawn; she only waits, but she waits a much brighter day than mine. For now.

Eyes will close, but you, unsleeping,
Watch by our side;
Death may come: in Love’s safe keeping
Still we abide.
God of love, all evil quelling,
Sin forgiving, fear dispelling,
Stay with us, our hearts indwelling,
This eventide.

(Evening Hymn)

  1. It must be Pat because she has been on my mind,in my heart and prayers intensely the past few days.

I had an inkling that you were attending to her spiritual needs and now you've confirmed you are keeping vigil. I've been praying for you, too. This is a very difficult time for you. God Bless you.

  2. Thank you for all your concern and prayers, Maryellen.

I spent two late-night evenings with Pat, but she went home last night with her family around her, as it should be. When I was there with her, she knew I was there, and I believe it gave her comfort. I could ask for no more.

But life goes on. I will still talk to Pat, perhaps even more now, but I have other friends to focus on, and to love. Pat was a gift, but God has given me many gifts to help ease the burdens of life, and help guide my way.

    Thank you for being there.

  3. Pat's suffering was meritorious, bringing her into sanctity and union with God.

She will be missed by many, even by me who never met her except through you. Certainly she will be sorely missed by those who loved her. May the Angels escort her into Paradise.

My sympathy goes to you and her family.
