Sit Down and Park It a While

If you build a cool shady spot in your driveway, you never know who’ll park there.

The neighbor’s kids love my driveway and the shade of my front tree more than their own (and I don’t even feed them anything --- I only feed their dog!).  If they’re not in front of their house, their mother knows where to look for them, in front of mine.  There’s no particular reason they choose my front yard, I’m sure.  It just feels comfortable to them.

Whether we realize it or not, we’re building cool shady spots with our lives, too.  It doesn’t take a lot of effort to be welcoming.  A little trimming of the grass (a nod to those around us), some water (a compliment to our neighbor --- for just about anything we can think of), and maybe a flower (a smile), and you might find neighbors wanting to be around you, also. 

You know we are all called to evangelize, but how can anyone get close enough to hear us if they don’t feel comfortable around us. 

So the next time you see your neighbor, why not say “Hey! Park it here for a while” by your actions.  Who knows?  Maybe they’ll end up helping you pull some of your weeds.
