We Crown Thee with Blossoms Today
After the televised mass on this Mother’s Day, there was a
May Crowning of the statue of Mary, a special little ceremony done in many
Catholic churches during this month dedicated to Mary, Mother of Jesus. And as the crown of roses was placed on the
statue’s head the choir led: “O Mary, we crown thee with blossoms today, …” It’s been many years since I sang that hymn,
and it brought tears of joy. After a
rosary was said, the choir led the singing of: “On this day, O beautiful
mother, on this day we bring thee our love …”
Another beautiful hymn of my youth.
I have many wonderful memories of my mother, and will spend
some time looking at old pictures this afternoon, re-living memories. Every mother is a blessing; every child a
gift from God. Mary knew this more than
most. The priest mentioned this morning
how he knows some families have started using this time to begin a family
rosary time, with each child leading a decade and deciding on the intention of
the decade, so the entire family participates uniquely in this prayer. What a wonderful idea to strengthen families,
and faith.
I wish all mothers, who may read this, a joyful day. Remember the good things; focus on the
blessings. Oh, along the way of life
there were trials in raising your children, certainly Mary experienced this
too. But like her, know that your child
is special in God’s eyes, as are you, for accepting His gift of life, and
loving it as He does.

The local newspaper this morning headlined: “Felician
Convent Mourns Deaths of 11 Sisters,” struck down by this Covid virus. This community of prayer now is in isolation
lockdown. Felician sisters taught my
elementary school, and those of my family.
I know that some of those teachers who taught us retired to this local
convent. Please pray for them.
