A Spiritual Adventure

“Life is a spiritual adventure,” said Dan Burke on his radio program, Divine Intimacy Radio.  (You may recall a favorite book of mine titled Divine Intimacy, which I reviewed here.)  Through a series of other “coincidences” I heard that radio program for the first time this morning.  It was only a week ago that another series of “coincidences” had me listen to that same Catholic radio station and hear for the first time the Epiphany program.  The Epiphany program focused on how God is appearing in our lives, as I so often see Him in mine.  The host there called those moments Epiphany, or AHA!, moments.  The Divine Intimacy radio show is focused on people living out what the Holy Spirit has called them to do:  we are all alive, right now, for a reason, and we should be seeking out that reason.

The Divine Intimacy program today was an interview of the director of a television series called The Advocate.  It airs on PureFlix television, and is a top-5 rated show.  The director told how a priest had once prayed over her (which she was reluctant to have done) and then shouted loudly: “You must save the girls!  You must save the girls!”  That was strange and meant nothing to her, until years later when she was almost kidnapped on the streets of New York City, managing to escape by jumping from her moving kidnap vehicle.  Shortly after, she heard about the levels of forced prostitution and pornography going on in this country.  Pornography is far and away the most viewed of internet web sites.  Children are often lured to meet internet “friends” and never heard from again --- just another runaway child --- until they are recognized on porn websites after having been kidnapped by their “friends”.  The Advocate program focuses on those true stories.  The director noted that people working in the porn industry may be your neighbors, who view what they do as just another job, “giving people what they want.”  The director also noted that she has been warned and threatened a number of times because of her work on that tv show.

This is, sadly, our country, and I am proud to support our local Catholic radio station for airing these programs.  There is evil in the world but, as the radio shows evidence, God is here too, and He asks us to help combat this evil and spread His Truth.

In a related story, I received an email from a friend yesterday, telling me of her recent battle against evil.  She was contacted by her bank asking when she would replenish her savings account, which had been depleted by automatically covering her overdraft checks.  She had written a check to pay a bill, put it in her mailbox and raised the little flag.  And, as she found out, it and others in the neighborhood of mostly elderly people, was stolen.  The police were informed and she worked with the bank, denying the phony checks which continued to come in.  She also had to stop her automatic deposits of pension and social security monies, before they got stolen.  My friend is near 80 years old and should not be facing these trials.  She said she did research and believes she has identified the thief, and will take evidence to the police, who have accomplished nothing so far.  She worries that she will be putting herself at further risk by coming forward.

This, too, is our country.  We have much to pray about.

I mentioned Dan Burke was the host of that radio show I “coincidently” listened to this morning.  Yesterday, I also “coincidently” participated for the first time in an online class, which was hosted by Dan Burke and his Apostoli Viae (Apostles of the Way) group.

Life IS a spiritual adventure.
